REGINE ELLIS...is Managing Director of Ellis Bridals, Kelsy Rose and John Charles

talks about what makes her designs so special John Charles Stand

I started my career following my mother around the local dressmakers. As a young girl,I was obsessed with how garments were put together.Having this experience early on helped develop my appreciation of well cut garments.I joined the Ellis design team more than 20 years ago, learned the trade and worked my way up to where I am today.

I'm best known for my eye, I can spot a design that will shape and define a woman's natural figure.Creating a glamorous ,flattering silhouette is my passion. The ethos behind my design work is that I always keep the idea of a 'real' woman in my mind this helps me to keep my designs wearable yet glamorous. Not every woman wants to slavishly follow trends. What's the signature Ellis Bridals look? This season

The signature I have kept is for silhouettes which are bold and striking with gowns pleated at the waist. The figure-hugging bodices are paired with embellished boleros and the detailing follows through onto the skirt trims.Tulle is prominent on sweeping gowns with lace appliqué.Taffeta is great to work with ,as you can create modern designs with a classic twist.I also like unique combinations, such as chiffon fused with exquisite French lace.

My other collections are for the Kelsey Rose girl who wants vibrant,on-trend designs. The coordinated bridesmaids' gowns come in a variety of fabrics, from delicate chiffon to luxurious satin. Subtle beading and floral embroidery are applied to stylish silhouettes. Designing for Kelsey Rose is fun,as I get to experiment with bright colour tones and exciting shapes. With John Charles, my overall aim is to create a timelessly chic range for the mother of the bride. This season, rich prints in luxurious jacquards and silks are applied to knee-skimming dresses coordinated with matching bolero cuffs and collars.Attention to detail is always key for us,so hand-crafted beadwork and delicate appliqué are prominent.Skirts are carefully tucked to hold and define, while sweeping crossover folds accentuate the natural figure.

My biggest achievement to date is winning Best Occasion Wear Collection for John Charles at the Bridal Buyer Awards for the last three years.Ellis Bridals will also celebrate its centenary in 2012.Today we have a machinist who has worked with us for more than 40 years-this degree of experience gives the company an understanding of how to construct a beautiful gown.

If I were not in fashion I could never consider a different career- I have the dream job.
